Only today have I discovered this site. Fond and despairing memories of RA, 1954-1960. I must say that I owe a lot to Norman Buchan who managed to verbally punch into me the value of education, although rather too late to be truly effective. My mother only went to one parent's night, as I can remember being beaten senseless on her return. Smith was the PE teacher from Hades although his son was a great guy. Who among the male pupils remembers the lovely Halina Barcikowski, Willma Cherry, Sandra McMinn etc. whom we all surveyed longingly. Anyway, now retired after emigrating to Edinburgh in 1977 and in love with life. 30 November 2008 - Edinburgh

Great site, I was at RA from 1965-1970 then did my 6th year at the opening year of Cathkin High. Great to look through the old RA magazines and photos. Holidays away with the school were great especially the one to Germany. The teachers behaved worse than us. Regards to all RA former pupils wherever you are. 13 November 2008 - Blackwood, Lanarkshire Webmaster comments   A new Cathkin High/Rutherglen High complex opened for the first time on 20th October 2008 just down from the old Cathkin. You can see pictures of the new schools at www.rutherglen.net The new all-weather floodlit footy pitch is amazing. It is used most evenings until about 6pm and fair brightens up the winter gloom of Holmhills Community Park.

I was over at Rutherglen recently getting photos of Stonelaw school and Stan Laurels two houses over there, are there any photos of him in the school. 1 November 2008 - Glasgow Webmaster comments   'Fraid we don't have any pics of Stan in the school. Would be great to have some though.
