Lovely to stumble on this site recently, brought back memories. I arrived at RA in March 1958 when I moved to Burnside; left in 1961. My name is listed under the class photos, so somebody must remember me (surprise!) I remember the School Shows at the Ru'glen Rep, was in one of them. Do any of the scripts still exist? I'd love a copy of the one when we did a Kurt Weill opera - 1959 or 1960, I think. Does anybody remember Miss Birkett? She taught languages- French, German, Russian. A few of us scraped through a Lower Russian in one year. There was a Hungarian teacher who taught Russian also, Miss Joachim, I think. Is it true that Norman ("Charlie") Buchan later became an MP? What happened to "Big Bill" Jackson? Nice man, had bouts of malaria, I believe. It would be great to have a comment from one of the teachers from that era on the site. Some of them must still be around (I hope). I read a comment from Alex Fawcett. Don't know him, after my time, but any relation to Jean Fawcett who left in '61? Went to THE Academy from 1961 to 1966. Ran riot with Bobby Ballantyne, Hugh Rattray and George Collins. Got 8% for maths in 2nd year. Had competition with George Collins in third year, and I got 87% for maths. Great thing motivation!!! Got expelled in early 1966 for too long hair. Got reinstated after Mum went down and sorted Olly Beak. Would love to see any class pictures from that era. 21 August 2009 - United Kingdom
