And does anybody remember how the 4th, 5th and 6th year used to park their motorbikes and scooters in Melrose Avenue and Mr Patterson objected so everybody started leaving them over in Clincart Road instead (near the driving test office)? That was a joke because he could see us arriving and leaving on them out the window. But he never said anything. Only Melrose Avenue was off limits apparently. Happy days eh? Vroom. Vroom.

Webmaster comments   Before my time Pete. But my big cousin got into trouble breaking that rule. 1964 I think if my memory's right.

Found the web site by accident, brought back some memories. I started RA in 1962 and left in 1966.

Webmaster comments   Hello Anne. My big cousin Jim Carpy from Cambuslang attended RA between 1961 and 1967, which spans your time at the school. Jim went into electronics and now lives in Johannesburg.

I do remember the ash pitches and the day That Spider the art teacher was called up as a Z reservist to go to Korea. A cheer went round the school. Daddy Byers was the head then Mr Paterson. I left in 1959 to join the RN .

Hello,
I find these school memory sites very interesting - it jogs my memories of my own schooldays - and of course it's a good way for people to keep in touch.I particularly like to read people's memories of their old teachers - the good and the bad!
I recently set up a Yahoo group to discuss the "Good Old Days".I'll put the address below and anyone would be welcome to have a look and swap memories of their childhood - or anything else!.
Best wishes,
Joan.

I was at RA from 1952-1958, some good memories, some not so good. It ain't easy when you are a specky wee swot, but it helped me develop a sense of humour, and it was always teasing, never bullying. We had an American Exchange teacher in 1B, Miss Sarah Rice, she was from the Bible Belt, supported Eisenhower, and was a bit of a pain in the proverbial. Wee Dan was a magic Maths teacher, Joe Cowper a sarky git but great English teacher. I remember the Ballads Club, Debating Society, hockey in the rain, and the school shows. I think Wee Ma was Miss Murphy, she had something wrong with one eye.
PS My moment of glory - Mastermind Contestant in 1984. Magnus mentioned the old school.
