Stan Laurel - lived in Rutherglen for a while as a boy and attended Rutherglen Academy, or rather - Stonelaw High School, as it was called then (and now). Click here for a pic.

Alistair MacLean - author of books such as The Guns of Navarone, Where Eagles Dare & Ice Station Zebra once taught English at Gallowflat School in Hamilton Road.

Ena Lamont Stewart - who wrote Men Shall Weep.

Magnus Magnusson - journalist & broadcaster, used to stay in Calderwood Road. I know, cos, back in the late sixties, yer man here delivered his Sunday papers (big heavy ones).

Janet Brown - renowned for her impersonations of former Prime Minister Mrs Margaret Thatcher (and many other notable ladies).

‘Gentleman’ Johnny Ramensky - a legendary Glasgow safe-cracker of Polish descent.

Andy Cameron - Scottish actor & comedian. Went to Rutherglen Academy.

Russell Hunter - Scottish actor & comedian.            George Penman - jazz musician & bandleader.
